Mmmm Mmm! Who doesn't need a good BBQ sauce in their life, especially a Maple Chili BBQ sauce? YUM! We are always trying the different BBQ sauces at each store we go to. Some of our favorites are actually at a little antique store in Anoka, MN called The Big White House. If you've been there, wonder over to the kitchen side and take a look at their incredible goodies.
That's what made me want to come up with our very own BBQ sauce. We like a little bit of a kick to ours but I also love all things maple and sweet (I have the worst sweet tooth and my husband and kids are no help at all- they just encourage it) so this recipe is a favorite for us now! The best part- it is so dang simple. I made this while holding my giant 4 month old son (seriously- 9.5 lbs when he was born = woah!) and dancing to The Cure with my 3 year old daughter (I'm a total 80's emo child at heart). That's how easy this recipe is!
Bring all the ingredients together to boil in a pot. I would go with a medium pot just to give your sauce more room to boil without spilling over. Keep whisking the sauce to make sure nothing is sticking to the bottom of the pot, and set at a rolling boil- so probably just above medium heat. I stir this up probably every minute to every other minute just to keep it moving.
Once you see that the sugars in it are starting to caramelize and the sauce is starting to thicken to the consistency you prefer, you can turn off the heat. Keep whisking until the bubbles all go away and let it cool off. Whisk it together one last time before pouring into a glass jar. I think it tastes even better once it's been chilling for a couple hours but feel free to use it right away! We LOVE this maple chili BBQ sauce on pulled chicken or pork and especially on burgers. - ½ cup Apple Cider Vinegar
- ½ cup Ketchup
- ¼ cup Dijon Mustard
- 3 tablespoon Brown Sugar
- 3 tablespoon Pure Maple Syrup
- 1 teaspoon Chili Powder
- 1 teaspoon Garlic
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
- Place all ingredients into a medium sized pot on the stove.
- Combine with a whisk and bring to a boil continuing to stir.
- Keep on a rolling boil (stirring consistently with whisk) until sauce thickens and reduces by at least ⅓.
- Turn off heat and let it cool before storing in a glass jar (mason jars work well). Keep refrigerated and enjoy!
