Hands down this easy salmon patties recipe with dill and lemon yogurt sauce on top are my family’s favorite way to eat fish at home. Now, we absolutely love sushi also but I haven’t quite gotten the courage to make it at home myself and honestly getting enough wild caught salmon or any other good fish makes me cringe because it’s so expensive. So, I came up with these and they are so so delicious and ridiculously easy- always a bonus! Even the kids gobble up at least 2 whole patties.
Salmon Patties Recipe:
Ok so let's talk fish. We love fish most of the time. We really love and are probably addicted to sushi- even my kids have been eating it since they were old enough to. But going out for sushi every week gets to be a lot so it's definitely more of a treat for us. Fish is so good for you though and I want to feed it to the fam more often but again I live in Minnesota so fish is ridiculously expensive, especially if you have multiple people to feed who all eat like hungry bears. So I get these cans of boneless skinless wild salmon cans from Trader Joes which you can also find on Amazon in a pack of 6. They are really nice to have and store because they don't go bad and they are the good kind- Wild Caught! Win!
Making it:
In a large mixing bowl, mix 3 cans of pink wild caught Alaskan salmon with all the spices, an egg, lemon juice, and corn meal. I have found that the corn meal just gives it that crisp texture and little bit of flaky crunch. They also seem to fry up in the pan just a bit easier with the corn meal absorbing extra moisture.
When the fish mixture is completely and thoroughly combined, heat up your favorite oil (coconut oil or olive oil are my favorite options) in a skillet or pan on the stove at medium- high heat. As you start to press the fish into your palms to make the patties, you'll have to kind of feel it out. This mixture can be crumbly around the edges so press firmly but gently. Make all the patties before placing in the hot oil. When you are ready to start frying, again make sure to be careful of the crumbly edges. Cook for at least 3 minutes on the first side before flipping. Make sure both sides get nice and golden brown. The nice thing about these patties is how quickly they cook through. The inside should be nice and flaky.
Set them on a paper towel to absorb any extra oil and grease while you make the yogurt sauce.
Dill Lemon Yogurt Sauce:
So so super easy but makes this meal for sure! I love sauces. We all do. I have found also that I can pretty much get my kids to eat anything if I also offer them a sauce to dip it into.
Simply mix the Plain Greek Yogurt, fresh dill, and lemon juice together in a bowl and serve with the Salmon Patties. We like to heap a healthy spoonful on each patty and dig in. Let us know if you made it in the comments! 🙂
